2011 Doug Fir Hallway Mural at Buckman Arts Focus Elementary School
Portland, OR
In 2011 I was so excited to be invited to return to Buckman Elementary to paint a second mural. As this one is in the hallway most used by the Kindergarten-2nd Grade, I was asked to come up with something that combined the K-2 science curriculum--trees, habitats, and insects. For this, the 1st section of the mural, I decided to start local and paint a Douglas Fir forest with native plants, insects, and wildlife. The finished mural spans approximately 12.5' x 30', and surrounds two bulletin boards used to showcase the children's art, as well as a water fountain and a small mosaic piece made by students.
